The following week, in round 16, North went down to South Melbourne by 31 points, then scraped home against Essendon by a point in round 17. Leading in to round 18 North were 5th on the ladder with a higher percentage than Carlton and Fitzroy. But there was no chance of being in the final four, as fourth place Essendon was 12 points clear.
North Melbourne went down to Carlton in the final game and finished the season in seventh place, with Fitzroy in sixth and Carlton in 5th.
Further Work Needed
An interesting photo. A very similar photo appears as part of the 1953 Argus Team Series.
The NSM Collection includes further images from this photoshoot, but from a photographer standing in a different location, probably a couple of meters away. The players at this shoot look in different directions, again indicating that there were different photographers.
The conclusion therefore is that this photo may not be a Boyles photo.
