Charles Boyles was born in 1888 and apparantly started taking photos in the late 1920's through to the early 1960's. Charles Boyles died at the age of 83 in 1971. This window of history serves as a broad focus for this website.

  • Chadstone shopping centre openned. Victoria's first self contained shopping centre.
  • TV personality Graham Kennedy coined the name Logie Award (for Australia's TV awards)
  • 1960 First cricket tied Test, Australia v West Indies at Brisbane. At the end of the tour, in early 1961, 20,000 people turned out for a ticker tape parade for the team in Melbourne.
  • Australian Frank Macfarlane Burnet becomes the joint winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Australia's first 'Australian of the Year'.

  • Latrobe University founded in Melbourne's northern suburbs
  • 20,000 screaming fans converge on the Beatles at the Southern Cross Hotel. The Beatles play at 'Festival Hall' as part of their Australian Tour
  • Cabinet decided to re-introduce compulsory military service, which had ended in 1960. Marbles denoting birthdates were drawn from a barrel to select those called up. Between the first ballot in 1965 and the last in 1972, some 63,000 were conscripted.
