Comment

A St.Kilda past players team photographed at the Junction Oval in front of the Blackie-Ironmonger Stand circa mid-fifties. Large crowd assembled and grandstand almost full.
Two players recognised: Colin Williamson is fifth from left in second front row, and Harold Bray is first player from left in front row.

Williamson played 165 senior games for St.Kilda 1937-46, coached Brighton to the 1948 VFA flag, and coached St.Kilda 1952-53. Bray was one of the Saints’ all-time greats. He played 156 senior games (1941-43 and 1945-52) and won the club’s best and fairest award in 1945 and 1947. He ran runner-up in the Brownlow Medal 1947 and was twice third in the Brownlow count (1949, 1952). Twenty-two players. White shorts.

GRNewman Stand.jpg
An enlargement of the photo shows a plaque reading 'GR Newman Stand', now called the Kevin Murray Stand.

This is possibly an old players game versus Richmond in May 1954, captained by Col Williamson or another similar match. In 1955 another old players match was played between Richmond and St Kilda at Richmond, and the photo is definately at StKilda.
