LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950 -BACK POCKET By PERCY TAYLOR
Argus 22-Jul-1950 p6 The Argus Week-End Magazine
Carlton count themselves as fortunate in having found RITCHIE GREEN for a back pocket job. He is a local boy, but was playing in the Northern District Football Asso- ciation .when his prowess was men- tioned. It took him only about 12 matches with the seconds to convince the senior selectors that he was the man they wanted, and he has been a senior ever since. He had his first senior game in 1946, and has passed 50 games. Excellent anticipation, safe marking, and ball control and disposal are the secrets of his suc- cess. He has courage and tenacity, and is no respecter of persons or reputations.
Ritchie follows the unusual job of steeplejack, and is a single man, al- though at Carlton they believe that state will soon be altered. He plays junior cricket in the summertime, and has a reputation as a wicketkeeper.
