LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950 -HALF-BACK FLANKERS By PERCY TAYLOR
Argus 24-Jun-1950 p14 The Argus Week-End Magazine
MUCH of Essendon's success has come from the defensive work of NORMAN McDONALD and HAROLD LAMBERT. McDonald came from Geelong as a half forward five years ago. He made the senior list three years ago, was tried in defence with the seconds, and "made good." Since then he has been a regular player, with 60 games in three seasons.
Norman, who is one of the most graceful players in the game, has superb dash and judgment, handles the ball like an artist, and disposes of it to advantage. He has shone as a footrunner, and won three big gifts last year. He is a wharf labourer.
