LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950 —HALF-BACK FLANKERS

Argus 1-Jul-1950 p12 The Argus Week-end Magazine

NOEL McMAHEN, who came from Mordialloc to Melbourne in 1946, had three games in the middle of that season, but played every game in 1947. He did not come in until the sixth game of 1948, but he still played in 17, including the grand final and replayed grand final won by Melbourne. His tally to the end of 1949 was 43 games.

Although he is 6ft. 1in., Noel played on the wing for a time, his pace and high-marking being an asset. Lately, however, he has taken his rightful place as a half-back flanker. He has superb dash, is a good ball handler, and a magnificent kick, especially on the run. He is improving all the time.

Noel is to be married in July. 'He was one of the best amateur sprinters a year or two ago, and works in the public service.
