LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950-FULL FORWARDS

Argus 27-May-1950 p7 The Argus Week-End Magazine

LINDSAY WHITE, now Geelong captain, has given his club great service as a goal-kicker. In 109 games he has kicked 399 goals up to the end of last season, and has represented Victoria.

Geelong heard of White when he was playing with Oxford, in the Western district, and he had his first senior game in 1941. He was an immediate success, kicking 66 goals in his first season. Then transport problems during the war caused Geelong to withdraw from the League for the next two years. Lindsay played with South Melbourne in that period, and kicked 80 in the first year, and 33 in nine games in the following sea- son.

Then he returned to Geelong, had a good year in 1947, when he kicked 77 goals, finishing with 9, 9, and 10 in the last three games, and his most successful year yet in 1948, when he tallied 86, with 11 his best single performance.

A quick lead out, a vice-like grip of the ball when he marks it, and an unusual style of drop-kicking, are features of his play. His drop-kicks are almost stab kicks, but they are most accurate.
