1950'S CROP OF NEW LEAGUE PLAYERS LOOKS GOOD Says Percy Taylor
Argus 2-Sep-1950 p10-11 Weekend Magazine
EARLY IN the sea- son Carlton felt that they had the best set of new players in their history. They signed up 15, and firmly believed that at least 12 of them would, sooner or later, be regular senior players.
Those hopes have not been realised. After early season injuries and dis- appointments in form, it is now felt that four- will go on to be regular players next season. They are Vin English, John Mills, Jack Brown, and Laurie Kerr.
…
Had he not been injured in the practice period, Kerr would have played in the first game as a wing man. but the injury was so persistent that he has played only since July 8. Solidly built and tenacious, Kerr's game is based on speed-he won several important footraces during the season. His kicking is not 100%, as he seems to be caught on the wrong foot. These are points that experience will mend. Laurie has the intelligence and the ability to overcome them.
