LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950-FULL BACKS Percy Taylor
BILL NOLAN, custodian at Collingwood, did a similar job for Northcote in the V.F.A. In 1946, when he was residentially tied to Collingwood, he sought a clearance to Richmond, and later to St. Kilda, but Collingwood knew something of his calibre, and refused the clearance.
Later he was asked to train with Collingwood, which he did. He reached the final list, and when he asked Northcote to clear him, he was turned down. He was told it would be reconsidered if he played in the first game. He agreed, but nothing happened, so he came without a clearance. He has played regularly, and has had 45 games in those three years. Ever since he was refused a clearance to Richmond, Bill, who has always been a "Tiger" man, has been keen to play against that team, but he has not yet done so, as he has always been unfortunate enough to be injured just on the eve of the match. On the first occasion he broke his collarbone and suffered concussion; against Footscray. Perhaps he will achieve his ambition in 1950.
In the summer Bill plays cricket with the Reservoir District, and is an all-rounder of considerable merit. He lives with his parents in Reservoir, and is in the metal trade at Abbotsford. Quiet, but with a sense of humour, Bill is highly esteemed at Collingwood, as he is a good club man.
