LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950 —ROVERS

The Argus 29-Apr-1950 P7

IN SPITE of the recent storm it is yet impossible to think of Hawthorn's roving without thinking of ALEX ALBISTON.

Coming from Auburn in 1936, Alex has been a grand player for Hawthorn, as his 163 games and 388 goals suggests. He is the son of the Rev. Walter Albiston, and there is football in the family. His elder brother, Harold, played for some years with Hawthorn, and a younger brother, Ken, is doing well with Richmond.
Fast and dashing and with great anticipation, Alex was always a head- ache to the opposition. During the war he was in the R.A.A.F., and if his career had not been thus interrupted, would almost certainly have established a club record for number of games. As it is, Bert Mills and Ted Pool are ahead of him.

Alex is married and is associated with a garage. He has been busy getting established in a new home at North Balwyn. For many years also he has been one of the mainstays of the Hawthorn-East Melbourne Cricket Club, and played his part in bringing the premiership to the club this season. He is a dashing batsman.
